Keep track of sprinkler, septic tank and water softener numbers. Having a record of these numbers can help to reveal a developing problem, or in the case of a softener, tune  your regenerations. Most importantly, you can control your irrigation settings based on weather with a clear vision of the predicted total monthly irrigation total. Of course, you may prefer to have a healthy landscape and pay exorbitant "excess use" penalties.
